Knowledge Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this program students will be able to:
 
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Systems Analysis and Design, Data Communications, Database Systems, Object-Oriented Programming (Java and/or Visual Basic), Management Information Systems, as well as a basic understanding of Knowledge Management, Organisational Behaviour, E-Commerce and Web Design and IS Project Management.
  • Analyze, implement and manage Information Systems in both their technical and managerial dimensions. Emphasis is given to the ability to comprehend the business implications of IT and optimally manage information systems to achieve competitive advantage.
  • Understand and apply the theories and principles of systems design and management in real-life business IT projects.
  • Explain the principles and theories of ethical decision-making and their practical implications in the everyday conduct of business.
  • Pursue postgraduate studies or professional qualifications in the fields of computer systems management, software engineering, information systems analysis and IT consultancy.
 
Skills Outcomes:
As a result of completing this program, students should have acquired the following skills and values:
 
  • excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrate analytical and critical-thinking skills necessary to make sound technical and managerial decisions;
  • numeric and quantitative skills including data analysis and interpretation, essential for IT professionals;
  • effective use of communication and information technology for business applications;

Possible Career Options:
Information Systems graduates, apart from sound technical knowledge, acquire managerial skills necessary for implementing and managing contemporary Information Systems. They may be employed as computer systems analysts, software engineering, TI sales professionals, computer systems managers, IT consultants and more. Combining computing knowledge and management specialisation, Information Systems graduates are a primary choice of many employers in all areas of the service sector in the contemporary private or public organisation. Our Computer Science graduates have found jobs in systems programming, telecommunications management, software engineering, IT project management, MIS systems design, E-commerce management, IT consultancy and more.
 
 
Further Study Options:
      At New York College: The BS in Information Systems provides the opportunity to graduates to enroll to the MSc in Computer-Based Information Systems or MSc in Information Technology Management, both offered at New York College. Most students choose to combine work with postgraduate studies in one of our MSc programs.
      At Institutions Abroad: The entry qualifications for graduate studies differ from university to university; however the SUNY/Empire State College degree is accepted by most universities in the U.S. and all in the U.K. Popular universities usually require in addition to the degree a GPA higher than 3.0.   If you are interested for study abroad opportunities, contact your advisor early on your studies with us, and through our Student Affairs Department come in contact with our alumni who continued their studies abroad.
