Mission:
Organizations face many challenges communicating in a global economy. From executives to employees and to activists, organizations must interact with a variety of key stakeholders and diverse publics. The mission of the Department of Communications at New York College is to offer high quality and challenging undergraduate and graduate education, in cooperation with accredited Universities in the U.S.A., aiming at equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary for making a significant contribution to the new globalized environment. The NYC Communications Department is characterized by the fact that the principles of basic communication converge and coexist with media, science, and technology. The specific topics that are addressed are as diverse as the faculty and student population who explore these areas in their research projects and courses.
The Department’s breadth of curricula, diversity of student body, scholarly activities of the faculty, as well as its contacts with the business world, have secured for it a reputation for excellence.

Objectives:
The Department of Communications focuses on the following objectives:
- Excellence in teaching with the employment of faculty members who combine the academic and industry background.
- Emphasis on the development of students’ skills in order to enhance employability.
- Teaching students how communication interacts with media, science, and technology, while developing skills to succeed in complex work environments.
- Continuous improvement and development of curricula, in response to the highly dynamic professional environment, and with a distinctive foundation in liberal arts a focus on raising students’ awareness on ethical, moral, environmental, and corporate responsibility issues of the modern organization.
- Acquisition of lifetime learning skills so as to continue critical reading and writing.
- Offering to students opportunities to experience the breadth of the field and to develop a depth of understanding in a chosen focus area. Interested students will be able to use communication and the English Language to bring about change at the individual and societal level.
- Research activities which will link the Department with the Communications world (Public Relations firms, Marketing Communications, Governmental Affairs, Mass Media etc) in a meaningful way for students and faculty.
- Offering life-long training opportunities for graduates and working professionals of businesses and organizations.
- Getting students to investigate the forces that shape media in contemporary society, investigating how what we see and hear comes to be. Also to analyze and understand the psychological, social, and cultural processes that are in turn affected by media, from politics to entertainment to news to the very question of what we understand as real about ourselves and true about the world around us.
- Teaching students how to use communication principles to analyze issues and situations involving groups, organizations, and selected audiences to design, implement, and evaluate appropriate communication programs.
