   DEAN

Dr. Dionysis Mentzeniotis, studied Economics at the University of Athens, Mathematics and Logic at the London School of Economics and completed his Ph.D. in Foundation and Philosophy of Mathematics at LSE.
He is the Academic Dean at NYC and member of the Academic Board at UNYP and UNYT. He has published in Philosophy, Mathematics, and Literature. Some of his books are “The transition from the Pre-Hellenic to the Hellenic Mathematics”, “Topos Theory and Infinitesimals”, “Did Galileo really perform the Pizza Experiment?”, “The Ark of Paradise”, “Epitomos Polylogia”, “Enchiridion Apasailis”.
He is a Member of the “Task Force” for the “Science, Technology & Society” Project, General Secreteriat of Research & Technology, Ministry of Development, Greece. Since 2001 he is a Program Evaluator, CORDIS, EU. He is a Member of the British Society for the Philosophy of Science.

  Dr. Tom Chionos: Juris Doctor, Detroit College of Law, (Michigan State University, East Lancing, Michigan), U.S.A.; Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan, U.S.A.; Graduate Studies in Public Health, University of Michigan Ann Arbor Michigan, U.S.A. Dr. Chionos has worked in private practice as a Trial Lawyer, and as a Litigator in the Public Sector (City of Detroit and County of Wayne Trial Attorney). He has served as a Michigan Appellate Administrative Law Judge. His professional experience includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Civil, Criminal, and Business Jurisprudence at Central Michigan University. Dr. Chionos teaches New York College undergraduate and post-graduate courses in Law, Political Science, and International Relations.

 ACADEMIC COORDINATOR, EMPIRE STATE COLLEGE

Karolyn M. Andrews earned her bachelor's degree at Texas A&M University, and her doctorate at the University of Chicago, both in psychology.  She then spent a few years doing post-graduate research at Cornell University's Bourne Lab in White Plains, New York.  After completing her post-doctoral work in reward mechanisms of ingestive behaviours, she went on to teach science in Emerson Preparatory, in Washington DC.  Taking a break from academia, Dr. Andrews then moved to Poland where she helped found and run an internet company, specializing in hotel reservations.  She enjoyed living abroad so after returning to Washington DC for a few years, she moved to Prague, Czech Republic and began to teach for New York College's program in Prague, which led to a full-time position with the University of New York in Prague running the psychology department and MBA program.  Empire State College then hired her in 2006 to run their program for Lebanon, which she continues to do along with the Athens program, which she began directing in September 2009.

Dr. Dimitris Andreou: Ph.D and Master’s in Information Systems, Drexel University Pennsylvania, and MBA San Jose State University, California. His work experience includes teaching at Drexel University, as well as the positions of Director of Business Development and Internal Audit, at the Agricultural Bank of Greece Group; IT Manager at Deloitte & Touche; Senior Technology Consultant and Senior Application Engineer at companies of the “silicon valley”, California.

Dr. Georgios Samakovitis: Ph.D in Technological Decision Making for Internet Banking Systems, University of Edinburgh Management School, UK; MBA, University of Edinburgh Management School, UK; MSc in Data Telecommunications and Networks, Salford University, UK; BEng(Hons), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Dr Samakovitis has been a Research Fellow at EdinburghUniversity, working for several years in a series of E-learning systems development and implementation projects. His teaching experience concentrates in the area of Technology Management at both undergraduate and MBA levels; his research activity includes the fields of Digital Image Processing, E-learning and Technological Applications in the Financial Services.

 HEAD, DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

Dr. Maria Livanou:

PhD in Psychology (Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, UK)
Diploma in Behavioural Psychotherapy (University College London, UK)
BSc Honours in Psychology, Education & Philosophy (University of Athens, Greece).

Dr. Livanou completed her post-graduate studies in London. After her studies she was employed for more than 10 years at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London and Maudsley Hospital, where she worked (doing clinical work, research and teaching). From 1998 to 2005 she was the coordinator of the International research projects of the Section of Trauma Studies (King’s College of London). Her areas of interest include cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, single-session behavioral treatments, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and mood disorders, and pathological grief. She has conducted research which examined the psychological consequences of traumatic events (rape, crime, accidents, natural disaster, war, conflict, etc) and the effectiveness of brief behavioral psychotherapies for trauma survivors. In 2005 she founded the Center for Anxiety Research & Therapy (in Athens, Greece) which is a private center that provides cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy to adults with anxiety disorders and depression. She is a member of the scientific committee and a regular lecturer at the post-graduate seminar for Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety Disorders, organized by the University Psychiatric Research Institute & the first Psychiatric Clinic of Athens (Athens University, School of Medicine). She also maintains a visiting attachment to the Department of Psychological Medicine of King’s College London. She is a reviewer for several scientific journals (including the Lancet, Journal of the American Medical Association, British Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Affective Disorders, Behaviour Research & Therapy, Journal of Psychosomatic Research, Journal of Traumatic Stress, International Journal of Psychology, Social Science & Medicine, International Journal of Clinical Practice, CNS Spectrum, and others).

 ASSOCIATE DEAN, DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Gontzes, Leonidas: Having been born in the USA, Leonidas moved to Greece at an early age, but kept on spending time in NJ and VT until when he completed his studies at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and received a B.A. in History. After completing his studies in the USA, he returned to Europe for a M.A. in European History in the Republic of Ireland. Since his return to Greece a decade ago,he has been teaching mostly History courses at several international institutions in the Greek capital. This is his eighth year teaching at New York College (NYC) and histhird year of administrative responsibilities as Academic Director/Coordinator of a MBA program offered at NYC here in Athens in collaboration with the Swiss Institute Universitaire Kurt Bosch.
With a strong interest in History, Government, Political Science, and International Relations he is now nearing graduation from Norwich University’s M.A. in Diplomacy program (June 2009).

 PROGRAM MANAGER, MARITIME STUDIES

Mr. Nikos Gousopoulos: is the Program Manager of the Maritime Studies Section.  He holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Piraeus and a MSc in Shipping from Cardiff University. Mr. Gousopoulos has also, a 25-years working experience in Shipping plus 10 years in Maritime Education, including 8 years teaching experience.

 PROGRAM DIRECTOR, DEPARTMENT OF FILM & TV STUDIES

 

Mr. Dimitris Panagiotatos: Film Director; BA and MSc in Audiovisual Studies, Paris VIII, FRANCE. Mr. Panagiotatos is an acclaimed cinematographer in Greece. His films have received several awards in Greece and abroad. He is also working as an editor in a publishing company specializing in film noir books and publications. Mr. Panagiotatos has served on the Board of Directors in the National Television in Greece.
