Dr. G.Samakovitis has been a Research Fellow at Edinburgh University, working for several years in a series of E-learning systems development and implementation projects. His teaching experience concentrates in the area of Technology Management at both undergraduate and MBA levels; his research activity includes the fields of Digital Image Processing, E-learning and Technological Applications in the Financial Services. |

Mission:
The mission of the Department of Informatics & Engineering at New York College is to offer high quality and challenging undergraduate and graduate education in the fields of Information Technology and Computer Science, in cooperation with accredited Universities in the U.S.A. and Europe, aiming at equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary for making a significant contribution to the new technological developments and market trends. The Department’s mission extends to ensuring that the School remains up to date with the latest advances in the ever-changing world of Information Technologies and pursues the continuous expansion of its curriculum to accommodate these needs. Its breadth of curricula, diversity of student body, scholarly activities of the faculty, as well as its contacts with the business world, have secured for it a reputation for excellence.
Objectives:
The Department of Informatics focuses on the following objectives:
- Excellence in teaching with the employment of faculty members who combine the academic and industry background.
- Emphasis on the development of students’ knowledge and skills in order to enhance employability. Particular attention is given to the development of practical skills in implementing and managing technological systems.
- Continuous improvement and development of curricula, in response to the highly dynamic nature of modern technology that constitutes the driving force behind contemporary business activity.
- Research activities which will link the Department with the industry in a meaningful way for students and faculty.
- Offering life-long training opportunities for graduates and working professionals in the sector.
