NYC English Language Students at Greenwich Conference
On Saturday April 21st, 2012 a group of New York College Thessaloniki students (Georgia Amoiridou, Magda Lera and Georgia Matsoulia) together with their tutor Paschalia Patsala visited the University of Greenwich, UK to attend a Colloquium on “The Role of Grammar Instruction in Second Language Acquisition”. The event was organised by the Applied Linguistics Group, led by Professor Alessandro Benati, School of Humanities & Social Sciences.
The three NYC students, who are attending the BA (Hons) Programme in English and ELT, had the opportunity to gain an up-to-date understanding of issues related to grammar learning and teaching, to discuss with other students and attend interesting presentations by the following renowned academics in the field of SLA:
- Professor Bill VanPatten, Michigan State University, USA
- Professor Mike Sharwood Smith, Heriot-Watt University, UK
- Professor James Lee, University of New South Wales, Australia
- Professor Hossein Nassaji, University of Victoria, Canada
- Professor María del Pilar García Mayo, University of the Basque Country, Spain
During their visit, they also enjoyed a walking tour at the University campus, which is located on the banks of the river Thames, getting impressed especially with the baroque buildings designed at the end of the 17th century.
