Dr Livanou completed her post-graduate studies in London. After her studies she was employed for more than 10 years at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London and Maudsley Hospital, where she worked (doing clinical work, research and teaching). From 1998 to 2005 she was the coordinator of the International research projects of the Section of Trauma Studies (King’s College of London). Her areas of interest include cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, single-session behavioral treatments, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and mood disorders, and pathological grief. She has conducted research which examined the psychological consequences of traumatic events (rape, crime, accidents, natural disaster, war, conflict, etc) and the effectiveness of brief behavioral psychotherapies for trauma survivors. In 2005 she founded the Center for Anxiety Research & Therapy (in Athens, Greece) which is a private center that provides cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy to adults with anxiety disorders and depression. She is a member of the scientific committee and a regular lecturer at the post-graduate seminar for Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety Disorders, organized by the University Psychiatric Research Institute & the first Psychiatric Clinic of Athens (Athens University, School of Medicine). She also maintains a visiting attachment to the Department of Psychological Medicine of King’s College London. She is a reviewer for several scientific journals (including the Lancet, Journal of the American Medical Association, British Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Affective Disorders, Behaviour Research & Therapy, Journal of Psychosomatic Research, Journal of Traumatic Stress, International Journal of Psychology, Social Science & Medicine, International Journal of Clinical Practice, CNS Spectrum, and others).

Christine McGuire holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology, from the University of LaVerne, California, USA. Ms. McGuire set up the Counseling Program at New York College in 2002 and is responsible for both the Graduate and Undergraduate Psychology programs. She has presented numerous seminars and workshops on: “The Change Process,” “Family Roles and Communication,” and “The Effects of Stress on Health,” “Psychological Conflict Management,” and “Substance abuse.” In addition to her research which deals with the role that psychosocial support plays in the recovery of cancer, she has co-authored the book “Alages sto taxidi tis zoes” (changes on life’s journey), Fytraki publications 2001. Ms. McGuire is also a guest speaker on various weekly television programs, where she discusses topics, which include: communication within the family, divorce, violence, depression, drugs and divorce. She is also a practicing psychotherapist and a professional member of the American Counseling Association (ACA).
