"RITA COSBY SCHOLARSHIP"
|
On June 16, 2009 New York College in Athens was proud to welcome the Emmy Award-Winning Journalist and Special Correspondent for CBS’ highly rated primetime show, “Inside Edition,” Rita Cosby.
Rita’s unwavering dedication to her profession and her support for democratic principles of a free and fair society, are in accordance with NYC’s mission in higher education. Her views on the importance of education coincide with NYC’s strong belief in the ideals of multicultural education, whereby all students, independently of race, ethnicity, religion, political belief, sex, sexual orientation, or physical disability, must be encouraged to reach their full potential as learners and active citizens of a local, national and global society.
At NYC, we consider diversity a privilege, since it opens new horizons to knowledge, enriches cultural contacts, and, most importantly, allows our students to interact in a culturally diverse milieu, which is indispensable for the global citizen of today. The aim of the “Rita Cosby Scholarship” is to annually provide two American students - one for the Athens campus, and one for the Prague campus- the unique experience and opportunity to study abroad and thereby enhance their cultural understanding, allowing them to distinguish themselves as someone who strives for a society where social equity and justice prevail.
