We are happy to announce the publication of an open access article in the peer reviewed journal of InterAlia: A Journal of Queer Studies, Non-Binary and other (Dis) identifications. The article is based on Dr Parvy Palmou’s important and impactful research conducted for her PhD whilst a University of Greater Manchester doctoral research student at New York College in Athens.

We examined the attitudes of medical doctors in Greece towards trans and non-binary persons but most importantly we explored the lived experiences of trans and non-binary persons with the Greek medical system and its people. The results reveal the struggles of trans and non-binary individuals in Greece's healthcare, highlighting discrimination, gross mistreatment and medical biases that lead to poor health outcomes. It notably emphasizes the underexplored experiences of non-binary people, bridging a gap in the existing research. Finally, by giving a voice to this population and by combining it with a thorough investigation of medical providers’ attitudes, we were able to highlight the need for continued education, destigmatization and policy changes. Good quality health care should not only be accessible to all, but it should be delivered with empathy, acceptance and true inclusion. In the rare few cases that our participants had experienced positive interactions with doctors they felt seen and ultimately received the care they needed. This should be the norm, not the exception.
