Dimas Pyrros B.Sc.

Pyrros Dimas is a reserve officer in the Hellenic Special Forces with the rank of Infantry Major. He is a distinguished graduate of the Department of Primary Education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with additional studies in agricultural science. He holds the world record (1999) in the snatch in the 85 kg category, lifting 180 kg. For his achievements, he was named best athlete five times in the annual vote of the Panhellenic Sports Press Association (PSAT) in 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, and 2000. In March 2005 in Istanbul, he was awarded by the International Weightlifting Federation as the Best Male Athlete of the Century. In November 2011, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) named him an Ambassador against Doping in Sports. Holder of three overall world titles (1993, 1995, and 1998) and one European title (1995). He made history with two world records that will stand indefinitely, as he achieved them in the 83 kg category, which no longer exists in competitive sports. In 2008, he was elected President of the Hellenic Weightlifting Federation, a title he retains to this day. Member of the Executive Board of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC). Founder of the “PYRROS DIMAS International Sports Institute” aimed at developing and promoting sports through social activities, while he also served as technical director and head coach of the USA Weightlifting Federation (2016–2018).
