Dr. Paxinos Odysseas M.D.
Studied Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, graduating in 1987 and joining the Hellenic Air Force with the rank of Second Lieutenant. During 1988–1991, he served in various Air Force units and underwent six-month postgraduate training in the USA in Aerospace Medicine. He specialized in Orthopedics at KAT Hospital during 1991–1998, interrupting his training in 1995 for one year to serve as a physician and medical evacuation coordinator during the Bosnian War. He worked as an Orthopedic Consultant at the 251 Air Force General Hospital from 1998 to 2001, when he relocated to Chicago, USA, undergoing two years of fellowship training in Spine Surgery and Shoulder Surgery at Loyola University Hospital. During this time, he conducted research in collaboration with the University of Crete, receiving his PhD in Spine Biomechanics. Returning to Greece, he completed flight training in Air Force aircraft, joining the Flight Surgeon roster, and subsequently served at the Air Force General Staff as Head of the Aviation Medicine Branch. In 2011, he completed postgraduate studies at the University of Bath in England, earning a Master’s degree in Sports Medicine. Since 2007, he is a Physician for the Supreme Council of Armed Forces Sports (ASAO) and, since 2008, Physician for the Hellenic Gymnastics Federation. Since 2011, he is a Physician for the Hellenic Olympic Committee and, since 2015, Physician for the National Football Team, participating in all missions. Since 2020, he is President of the Scientific Commission of the International Military Sports Council (CISM). He teaches Aviation Medicine at the Hellenic Air Force Academy with the rank of Lecturer and is an instructor in various orthopedic and emergency medicine seminars. He is a member, among others, of the American College of Surgeons, the European Spine Society, and the European College of Sports Medicine. He has translated 3 orthopedic textbooks into Greek, authored chapters in foreign orthopedic books, and authored dozens of international publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences.
