Katsipis Georgios
Dr. Georgios Katsipis is a Chemist with a Doctorate in Biochemistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Neurodegenerative Diseases (LND) of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation (CIRI-AUTH) and the Laboratory of Animal Physiology, Department of Veterinary Medicine at AUTH. His research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, specifically studying inflammatory biomarkers and microbial infections associated with the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases. He developed an in vitro model of Alzheimer’s neuroinflammatory pathology based on primary rat neuroglial cell cultures and has participated in research projects with the Greek Association of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders regarding the benefits of physical exercise in early dementia patients, as well as studying inflammatory biomarkers and microbial infections in Alzheimer’s patients. Concurrently, he investigated the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties of natural products in neuroglial cultures and neural cancer cells. His research demonstrated the potential contribution of bacterial metabolites, such as lipopolysaccharides and flagellin, in disease diagnosis via non-invasive methods like blood and saliva analysis. He has co-authored 22 publications in international scientific journals (400 citations, h-index 12) and over 30 presentations at national and international conferences. Currently, he works at the National Reference Laboratory for Marine Biotoxins as a contract chemist while studying the effects of chronic inflammation in in vivo animal models. Dr. Katsipis collaborates with New York College as a lecturer for Health Sciences courses at the Thessaloniki campus.
