Bratsos Ioannis
Dr. Bratsos graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), earning his Chemistry degree in 2000. That same year, following competitive examinations, he was awarded a four-year postgraduate research fellowship in Chemistry at the National Centre for Scientific Research “DEMOKRITOS.” He obtained his Master’s (2003) and Doctorate (2005) with a specialization in Bioinorganic Chemistry from NKUA with highest honors (“Arista”). From 2005 to 2011, with an interruption in 2008 to fulfill military service in Greece, he worked at the University of Trieste (Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Italy) as a postdoctoral researcher. In 2012, he returned to Greece and worked at NCSR “DEMOKRITOS” (Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology – INN) as a research associate in the Chemical Biology of Natural Products and Designed Molecules laboratory. Since 2021, he is a Senior Researcher (Researcher C) at INN (NCSR “DEMOKRITOS”) and head of the Inorganic and Hybrid Functional Nanostructures laboratory. Throughout his research career, as a graduate student or postdoctoral researcher, he visited leading European laboratories, such as CERM (University of Florence, Italy) and the Gorlaeus Laboratorium (Leiden University, Netherlands), working under the scientific supervision and guidance of internationally recognized researchers. His research interest and expertise lie primarily in Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry (development of novel inorganic drugs). His research results have been published in 36 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact international journals; he is co-author of a book chapter titled Bioinorganic Medicinal Chemistry and holds an Italian patent (novel ruthenium complexes as potential anticancer agents). In a recent metric (Scopus 28/12/2021), he had 1,514 citations and an h-index of 22. Furthermore, he has attended over 20 international and national conferences, delivering 7 oral presentations and over 10 poster presentations.
