MSc Marine Engineering Management, University of Greenwich (2014)

Before joining NYC I had studied Naval Architecture at Athens Technological Educational Institute, faculty of Technological Applications - department of Naval Architecture. After obtaining my degree in Naval Architecture in 1998, I continued my studies at the department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus, as I wanted to broaden my knowledge not only to the technical but also to the operational areas of the shipping industry which I completed in 2002.

My working career in the shipping industry started in 1997, initially as a trainee and afterwards as a qualified plan approval engineer of the Cyprus Bureau of Shipping being also trained and qualified to carry out ISO/ISM audits. In April 2004 I joined a shipping company which owns/manages ocean-going dry bulk cargo ships, as a Superintendent Engineer. Among others, my duties include dealing with various technical and statutory issues, monitoring fleet’s maintenance programme, supervising dry-dockings, carrying out inspections & ISM/ISPS audits.  I really hope the valuable knowledge I gained from the MSc degree will boost my future career.   I enjoyed the fact that I learnt new things and meeting new people.

My advice to new students is choose a programme that YOU are interested in and not others, set your targets, stay focused on to them, make your best efforts towards achieving them, play fair and you won’t lose.
