Panagiotatos Dimitris
Dimitris Panagiotatos is the Head of the Department of Film Studies, as well as a film director, producer, and author. He studied in France at Université Paris 8. He is the director and producer of seven feature films co-produced with the GREEK FILM CENTRE, earning numerous accolades and participating in festivals in Greece and abroad (San Sebastián, Barcelona, Montreal, New York, among others). He was honored with the State Award for Directing for his film The Night with Silena and the State Quality and Technical Achievement Award for Lovers in the Time Machine. His other films include L’usine du vampire, The Third Night, Monaxia mou Ola, and Strangers in a Foreign Country. He has directed TV movies and television series for both public and private television (Tales of Mystery and Imagination, Magical Night, Bold Stories, etc.). He is the author of two books on cinema, and his reviews and essays have been published in numerous magazines. He is a member of the Greek Film Directors-Producers Association and a founding member of the Hellenic Film Academy. With 30 years of teaching experience, he has taught film direction, history, and film aesthetics in numerous film and theater schools. Since 2005, he has served as Program Director and lecturer in the Film Studies Department at NEW YORK COLLEGE. He holds a particular affinity for what he terms “dark side cinema” (film noir, thrillers, and fantasy). In 2019, three of his films were released on DVD in the United States and the United Kingdom to great acclaim by Mondo Macabro under the collective title Lovers Beyond Time (The Greek Fantastic). His latest book, titled Can Art Change the World?, was recently published by Kastaniotis Editions.
