Psychology and Aviation Psychology: Bridging the Gap through Risk Perception

On 16th January Dimitris Chionis, MSc in Human Factors in Aviation (University of Coventry) and PhD candidate (University of Bolton) led a workshop for New York College students entitled "Psychology and Aviation Psychology: Bridging the Gap through Risk Perception". Participants were introduced to the basic concepts of Aviation Psychology and Human Factors, and reflected on everyday decision-making and special hazards. The highlight of the workshop was the opportunity for two volunteers to try out their risk perception skills and abilities via hazardous scenarios on a flight simulator. Dimitris' main research interests are Aviation Psychology, risk perception, risk communication, and behaviour-based interventions. His PhD research investigates the trends of risk perception and risk communication among aviation professionals.
