NYC President Message
My dear students,
In this new academic year 2020-2021, which is particularly important as a bicentennial year for Greece and Europe, I welcome you to the international academic community of New York College --the historic Greek college that in collaboration with state universities in Europe and America has reshaped the map of post-secondary education in Greece, the Balkans and Central Europe in the last three decades.
More specifically, New York College (NYC) was founded in 1989 in cooperation with the world-renowned State University of New York, the largest university in the USA, on the basis of a comprehensive international agreement of academic validation, historically the first of its kind in Greece and the Balkans. In the following years, NYC expanded the range of its international academic collaborations in Europe. As result, authentic BACHELOR, MASTER and PhD degrees of American and European public universities are now awarded to NYC graduates —by State University of New York - Empire State College (USA), University of Greenwich (England), University of Bolton (England), and Université Toulouse 1 Capitole (France)— i.e. academic degrees that are equivalent to corresponding degrees awarded by Greek public universities, as to the professional rights of NYC graduates.
Furthermore, NYC has grown into an international academic group: In 1998, NYC founded University of New York in Prague (UNYP) in the heart of Europe, in the Czech Republic. It is noteworthy that UNYP has ever since evolved into the first institution that was officially recognized as Private University by the Czech Ministry of Education. In the following years, NYC played a pivotal role in the development of the college sector of tertiary education in the Balkans and particularly in Tirana, Skopje and Belgrade.
The international dimension of NYC, along with its ranking as one of the two leading Greek colleges —according to a study by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA 2018)— gives our graduates an additional comparative advantage in the labor market: They are not only graduates of prestigious American or European state universities, but in addition they have studied at the only Greek college with international status and prestige, that reflects on the specialized instruction and the academic research of its distinguished professors.
During their studies, our students expand their knowledge and enrich their life experience by being immersed creatively into a unique educational and cultural environment, either at the world-class NYC Athens Campus —in the same neighborhood where knowledge and culture were developed and flourished— or at the international NYC Thessaloniki Campus, or even at the UNYP Prague Campus, the diamond of NYC Group in the heart of Europe, in the Czech Republic.
As students in the multicultural academic environment of New York College, you will develop both a cultural perspective and an international outlook in your perceiving of the world. To this end, the NYC epigrammatic triptych "Rooted in the Past, Living in the Present, Looking to the Future" may be your solid and reliable compass, initially in the most beautiful journey of your life, the journey of your academic knowledge in the fascinating environment of NYC, and later on in your professional career in Europe and the world, where over 90% of our graduates take up full-time positions within the first semester after graduation.
To this end and on behalf of the professors and the administrative executives of NYC Group, where the students' goals are ambitious but always feasible, I wish you a course of study that will be both intellectually motivating and professionally rewarding in 2020-2021 and beyond.
Elias S. Foutsis, Hon PhD,
President & Founder of the NYC Group
