Psychology Lecture at New York College: "CBT-E for Eating Disorders: Analysis of a Case Study of an Anorexic Client"

24 November 2017
Psychology Lecture at New York College:

On Thursday 23rd November, the Department of Psychology at New York College organized a talk by Dr Marsha Koletsi, a Psychologist specialized in the treatment of Eating Disorders using Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (PhD, University of Sheffield, UK), entitled "CBT-E for Eating Disorders: Analysis of a Case Study of an Anorexic Client". The talk was part of the Psychology Invited Speaker Series for the academic year 2017-18. The participants were introduced to CBT-E, a transdiagnostic personalised psychological treatment for eating disorders which addresses psychopathological processes external to the eating disorder. CBT is one of the most effective forms of psychological treatment for eating disorders with up to 50% of clients making a full and lasting recovery. Dr Koletsi talked through the steps of the client's personalized one year treatment plan, stressing the importance of reaching a joint formulation of the client's problem, i.e. what may have caused it and what the barriers to recovery are, and highlighted some of the challenges that arose during the treatment. The event was attended by NYC undergraduate Psychology students, MSc Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy trainees, students undertaking the KDBM2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and members of the general public - including practitioner psychologists, psychotherapists and nutrition specialists.
