Στην Αρχαία Ολυμπία ο φετινός Διεθνής Τελικός Γύρος της Οικονομικής Ολυμπιάδας
H εκτελεστική επιτροπή της Διεθνούς Οικονομικής Ολυμπιάδας με μεγάλη χαρά και τιμή ανακοίνωσε ότι ο φετινός Διεθνής Τελικός Γύρος της Οικονομικής Ολυμπιάδας που θα διεξαχθεί από την 1η έως τις 4 Σεπτεμβρίου, θα φιλοξενηθεί στις εγκαταστάσεις της Διεθνούς Ολυμπιακής Ακαδημίας στην Αρχαία Ολυμπία, στην Ελλάδα - τη σεβαστή γενέτειρα των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων. Αυτός ο εξαιρετικός χώρος συμβολίζει την ενότητα, την αριστεία και το διαρκές πνεύμα ανταγωνισμού που ενσαρκώνει η Οικονομική Ολυμπιάδα. Η Αρχαία Ολυμπία, με την πλούσια ιστορία και την πολιτιστική της σημασία, αποτελεί το κατάλληλο σκηνικό για αυτή τη συγκέντρωση νέων με ταλέντο στις οικονομικές επιστήμες από όλο τον κόσμο. Οι συμμετέχοντες θα έχουν τη μοναδική ευκαιρία να διαγωνιστούν, να συνεργαστούν και να ανταλλάξουν ιδέες σε μια τοποθεσία γεμάτη από την παράδοση των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων, που εδώ και πολύ καιρό αποτελούν φάρο ειρηνικού ανταγωνισμού και διεθνούς συντροφικότητας. Αυτό το σκηνικό όχι μόνο ενισχύει την εμπειρία για τους φιναλίστ μας, αλλά συνδέει επίσης τις πνευματικές αναζητήσεις των οικονομικών επιστημών με τις διαχρονικές αξίες του Ολυμπιακού κινήματος.
International Final Round 2024 – Economics Olympiad
Greeting by the President and Founder of New York College educational group, Mr. Elias S. Foutsis, Hon PhD
As President of the New York College International Educational Group, I would like to express my great pleasure and honor to be the official sponsor of the Economic Olympiad 2024, a prestigious international economic knowledge competition that is addressed not only to high school students in Greece but also to many countries abroad.
The institution of the Economic Olympiad is a clear proof of the enormous power of education and the unlimited potential of the new generation.
In fact, the Economic Olympiad is a celebration. A celebration of education, excellence, innovation and cooperation that transcends all geographical boundaries.
In a globalized world, this celebration aims at bringing out talented, economically literate and insightful young individuals who will become tomorrow's economic scientists, entrepreneurs and leaders. They will all be asked to confront contemporary social issues such as poverty, social and economic inequalities, the environmental crisis, but also to strengthen cooperation between nations, international development, social welfare and stability.
I express my sincere thanks to the organizers, members of the academic community, the tireless high school teachers and all those who have worked and will continue to work in the coming months for the successful organization of this year's Economic Olympiad.
To all the participants, I heartily wish you good luck and encourage you to always have excellence, cooperation, creativity, and integrity as guiding lights over the course of your life. May your participation reflect not only your individual skills and talents but also your commitment to a better tomorrow, a better world.

O οικονομικός αλφαβητισμός είναι μια ανεκτίμητη δεξιότητα που επιτρέπει στους πολίτες να λαμβάνουν καλύτερες αποφάσεις τόσο στην προσωπική όσο και στην επαγγελματική τους ζωή. Η κατανόηση των βασικών οικονομικών αρχών βελτιώνει την ικανότητα κάποιου να πλοηγείται στην περίπλοκη παγκόσμια οικονομία, να διαχειρίζεται με σύνεση τα προσωπικά του οικονομικά και να συμβάλλει αποτελεσματικά στις συζητήσεις για τη δημόσια πολιτική. Προάγει την κριτική σκέψη και τις δεξιότητες επίλυσης περίπλοκων προβλημάτων, ενθαρρύνοντας μια βαθύτερη κατανόηση του πώς λειτουργούν οι οικονομίες, τι επηρεάζει τις χρηματαγορές, καθώς και τον αντίκτυπο των οικονομικών πολιτικών στην κοινωνία. Τελικά, η οικονομική γνώση εξοπλίζει τα άτομα με τις γνώσεις για να επιτύχουν οικονομική σταθερότητα και να συμμετέχουν ενεργά στον σχηματισμό μιας ευημερούσας οικονομίας.
Η Οικονομική Ολυμπιάδα (www.economicsolympiad.org) βρίσκεται στην πρώτη γραμμή της προώθησης του οικονομικού αλφαβητισμού αποτελώντας το μεγαλύτερο και ταχύτερα αναπτυσσόμενο διαγωνισμό οικονομικών γνώσεων για μαθητές και μαθήτριες λυκείου στον κόσμο. Ο διαγωνισμός μας έχει από την ίδρυσή του το 2016 περισσότερους από 400.000 συμμετέχοντες από 25 χώρες και τέσσερις ηπείρους, συμπεριλαμβανομένης και της Ελλάδας. Σκοπός μας είναι να προσφέρουμε σε μαθητές και νέους ανά τον κόσμο τη δυνατότητα να εμβαθύνουν τις γνώσεις τους στα οικονομικά και τα χρηματοοικονομικά, να ενισχύσουμε τους εκπαιδευτικούς με τα κατάλληλα εργαλεία ώστε να αυξήσουν την επιδραστικότητα της διδασκαλίας των οικονομικών, και να προωθήσουμε συστημικές αλλαγές στα εκπαιδευτικά συστήματα παγκοσμίως ώστε να ανυψώσουμε τη σημασία και την ποιότητα της οικονομικής και χρηματοοικονομικής εκπαίδευσης.
Στη σημαντική αυτή πρωτοβουλία, το New York College αποτελεί έναν από τους σημαντικότερους αρωγούς. Με τη διεθνή του επίδραση και ακτινοβολία, το κύρος και την ποιότητα της εκπαίδευσης που παρέχει εδώ και 35 χρόνια στην Ελλάδα, το New York College συμβάλλει καθοριστικά στην εξάπλωση του οικονομικού αλφαβητισμού όχι μόνο στη χώρα μας αλλά και διεθνώς. The usefulness of financial education for a successful life, Prof. D. Bourantas, Dean of NEW YORK COLLEGE
Our lives depend on the choices that each of us makes within the context of the social, political, legal, technological, ecological and, most importantly, economic environment. The economy determines the social benefits of the state such as health, education, infrastructure, protection of the natural environment and, most importantly, the income of each citizen. It is through all of these that the quality of our lives is largely determined. Understanding the size and development of the economy is therefore crucial in order to make the right choices in the professional, personal and political spheres. In practice, this means that economic education, i.e. knowledge of fundamental economics, is essential for everyone.
More specifically, every citizen must know the basic economic concepts, the figures and their possible developments in order to be able to perceive their positive or negative consequences and to make the right choices for their professional and personal life.
In particular, the economic variables that we all need to know are the Gross Domestic Product, inflation, unemployment, income per capita, public debt, interest rates, balance of payments (imports - exports), tax rates, the level of investment, the surplus or deficit of the state budget, the value of the currency in relation to other major currencies, the rate of growth or decline of the economy, savings, consumption, purchasing power. But in addition to knowing these figures, it is particularly important to know the correlations between them. For example, when inflation increases, purchasing power decreases. When investment increases, Gross Domestic Product increases, when corporate taxes increase, investment decreases, and when investment decreases, unemployment increases.
The acquisition of economic education is certainly the responsibility of schools at all levels. For example, at NEW YORK COLLEGE we have the responsibility to foster financial education for all students regardless of their major field of study. Beyond that, however, each of us can easily acquire the knowledge mentioned above by reading the concepts and following the evolution of their figures on the internet and the media. In conclusion, financial literacy does not require special studies in economics but it is easy to acquire, as long as we understand its usefulness for our professional and personal lives.
